 RESOURCES FOR HISTORY CLASSROOMS

Learning about the world and its history is a key part of primary school teaching.
What follows is our resource recommendations for Primary School.

  • World History: Children can discover important artefacts from world history through a dynamic interactive timeline, quizzes and videos, while teachers will find a host of lesson plans and activities to engage students. The site presents a short explanation on what makes the artefact so special and features photographs and videos on related subject matter (in the case of the Rosetta Stone, videos are provided for everything from the names of Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs to the magnificent tomb of Tutankhamun).
  • Ancient Greeks: This site does plenty to bring children closer to the wonders of ancient history, allowing them to select from a number of categories, including Home life, Gods and heroes, Arts and theatre and Greeks at war. Each category contains photographs of important artefacts, which each tell their own story. Fun facts and additional resources are also provided, as well as quizzes, activities and related information.
  • Romans: The influence the ancient Romans has wielded on modern society is difficult to calculate and this site invites kids to appreciate ancient Rome and its effect on everything from technology to warfare, art and architecture. Parents who use the site alongside their children while helping them review for Primary School History will delight at rediscovering topics such as the Roman army, the invasion of Britain and typical life in a Roman town.
  • Heroes of Troy: This refreshingly unique site focuses on the Trojan War, beginning with the love story of Paris and Helen. Rather than present factual information, it head dives into music, with students learning songs which describe different events in this fascinating story of love and war. Backing tracks are provided so students can create their own karaoke at home or at school – who said history was a dry subject?
